It is normal to feel lazy. Many people even successful ones feel lazy, so there is nothing wrong with that. However, being lazy could delay things in your life in some ways, which you don’t really want. Therefore, it is important to know how to stop being lazy to achieve more and proceed in life.

I personally define laziness as the life or habit of not doing anything. When you are lazy, you just want to sit down and never do something interesting in your life. Laziness is when you want to do something, but don’t really do it because your brain is telling you that you are lazy or tired and you don’t have the power to do it.

If your laziness definition is not the same as mine, you have to come out with your definition of being lazy. In this article, I will provide you 6 ways to stop being lazy immediately.

1. Workout in the morning

I have read a lot about the benefit of working out in the morning and starting my day with any kind of exercise. However, I didn’t believe how effective this is until I tried it. It has been 30 days for me since working out in the morning by the time I am writing this and this is one of the things that I will be doing in my entire life.

Do you workout? if not, then you have to do so because you will get your full energy after working out. Yes, during any exercise you will feel tired and exhausted, but after finishing your workout and taking a cold shower, you will have the best feeling. If you workout, but you love doing that at night, I would say try your best to shift it in the morning or in the afternoon. This is because when you workout in the day where you can see the sun, you will emotionally feel activated, which could make you feel happy.

Always start your day by working out in the morning. Now, you might say that you don’t have time. Well, I am an Engineer who has an 8-hour job, a part-time student who is studying to get a master’s degree, learning Italian 3 times a week, and much more. However, I still make sure that working out is my first priority to be done throughout the day, it is one of my habits now.

Working out could be only for 30 minutes. Therefore, this shouldn’t be a big deal for you since you might already spend those 30 minutes on something that is not that important. For that, if you want to stop being lazy immediately, start working out in the morning. I wouldn’t say daily, but at least do that for 3-4 times a week. I can assure you that you will then feel very active, which there wouldn’t be a chance for you to feel lazy again.

2. Have a plan to start your day

Planning is very important because without planning you can easily feel lost. Most of the time people who don’t plan are the ones who feel lazy because they usually feel that the day passes without purpose, so they just feel lazy and never stop being lazy. If you want to know how to stop being lazy then start your day by planning. As you plan your day, you will be productive and productivity means overcoming laziness.

But you might be wondering, how to plan? Is there a specific method for planning? Well, you have to find a way that works for you. Some people do it by bullet points, while some integrate things together such as Google calendar. Therefore, it depends on your own style either you like planning by hand or do it digitally. Here are 7 tips for planning your day.

However, the real planning comes into action when doing it effectively. So, how can you do it effectively to overcome laziness? I prefer doing it in the morning because I can imagine what I will have throughout the day. Some people prefer planning a night before. I like doing that in the morning because a night before cannot let me really imagine my second day in-depth.

When it comes to planning, I would say try to have a maximum of 5 things that you have to do. This is because when you have more than 5 tasks, you will feel lazy and just start to procrastinate. Similarly, when you have only 2 or 3 tasks, your mind will start telling you that you have a very long day, so you will start procrastinating by telling yourself that you will do them later. Therefore, make sure you have a good plan that you can manage because that will help stop being lazy.

Whenever you feel lazy and don’t want to do anything, know your why or remember it. This is because when you know why you will do that thing, you will immediately do it. Let’s say I have to study very hard, which would probably take more than 4 hours a day, but I feel very lazy. However, I know why I need to do this. I need to do it because I will get good grades because when I get good grades, I will pass. When I pass, I will be able to graduate.

Knowing your why will surely motivate you no matter how lazy you are. Therefore, have your “WHY” in front of you because you will then do your best to not give up even if it is really difficult or if it requires a lot of energy to take action. Knowing your why is essential to overcome laziness.

4. Keep pushing yourself

Self-motivation is very important because nobody will push you forward if you are not helping yourself. Also, keep pushing yourself as it will surely let you move forward. Yes, there are some days where you feel lazy and that is normal. However, if that took longer than expected, start pushing yourself by triggering your brain and body to boost the motivation inside you.

Don’t wait for anyone to push you because people will not do it for you. Either your family or friends, if they notice that you lack motivation or seeing you always being lazy, they will most likely not help because many people could think that this your personality. Personally, whenever I see someone I know being lazy or just delaying things all the time, I get to help them once and twice. However, if my talk or advice to them is useless as if I notice they are not changing, I just stop.

Benefits are usually things that you get after achieving something, so they are like outcomes. Also, think about the benefits. Let’s say you feel lazy now, but then for some reason, you feel super active and energized. This energy got you to complete all of your tasks. In this case, the benefits are getting things done and being on track on things you are doing.

The same thing goes for when you are studying. If you feel lazy, you have to study because you know that studying will get you tons of benefits which the main benefit is getting a good job when you get a high grade. Therefore, it is similar to knowing your why, but the benefits are the advantages. Therefore, stop being lazy will surely let you get things done, get you good grades as a student, make you very productive at work, and just change you in general as a person.

6. Do one thing at a time

We all love multitasking; however, when you multitask you will usually feel tired quickly, which could lead to laziness. Therefore, focus on doing one thing at a time. This is because your energy will not run out fast and as you progress, you will want to do more.

I personally list the tasks that need to be done. I take each individual task separately and complete that task without thinking about others. As when I focus on only one thing, my brain will think that I only have one thing to do at the moment.

Therefore, doing ONLY one thing at a time will surely stop you from being lazy because as you finish one task, you will want to finish another one. This will let you move forward faster than you think and you will at the same time overcome laziness without even noticing.
